So Thanslink is at it again, they will propose, discuss and will try to approve a fare increase to public transit on their upcoming board meeting on Wednesday September 29th, 2004 starting at 10AM at the Coquitlam city hall (3000 Guildford Way, Coquitlam BC V3B 7N2).

Here is the agenda

I took the picture on the right from the first document in the agenda page 5.

The increases are

Cash ticket:

1 zone $2.25 from $2.00

2 zones $3.35 from $3.00

3 zones $4.50 from $4.00

Bus passes

1 zone $69 from $63

2 zones $95 from $87

3 zones $130 from $120

U-Pass (SFU) $27 from $25
U-Pass (UBC) $25 from $23

Handy DART also increases.

Concession tickets, Fare savers (books of 10), all zone concession monthly passes, Day passes and book of 10 for Handy DART do not increase.

Sin aventar un choro mareador, estas son las pagina de internet que visito casi a diario en cuanto a politica:

• http://www.indymedia.org (hay versiones locales para muchos lugares del mundo). Esta pagina es estily "blog", lo interesante es que todo mundo puede publicar noticias ahi. El tema principal es activismo. Muy, muy interesante.
• http://resist.ca Activismo/periodismo independiente muy parecido a Indymedia. Esta pagina es principalmente de broncas en Vancouver. Excelente pagina.
• http://apc.resist.ca "Anti poverty committee" tambien principalmente sobre Vancouver.
• http://www.zmag.org Activismo/periodismo independiente sobre temas mundiales y de Estados Unidos. Los participantes principales son celebridades en el mundo del Activismo (Noam Chomsky, Michael Albert, Michael Moore, etc). La cantidad de informacion es esa pagina es impresionante. Un tema tratado muy pero muy a fondo aqui es "Participatory economics" o Parecon. Super interesante. Si alguna vez han tenido de esas platicas para arreglar el mundo, Parecon es una idea muy desarrollada, discutida, elaborada, etc en ese sentido.

Y luego pues estan las paginas que tienen publicaciones mas "formales" en las que les dedican mucho tiempo antes de hacerlas publicas:

• http://www.policyalternatives.ca "The canadian centre for policy alternatives" Exclusivamente temas canadienses. Muy al punto. Excelente pagina. Me registre a todas sus publicaciones (las mandan por correo) y todas son de primera calidad. Toda la informacion bien sustentada.
• http://www.canadians.org/ "The council of canadians" Tambien puros temas de Canada. Esta organizacion es uno de los contrapesos mas fuertes del gobierno canadiense. Excelente trabajo que hacen.
• http://www.legis.gov.bc.ca/ "Legislative assembly of british columbia" (la asamblea legislativa de Columbia Britanica). Aqui pueden ver la transcripcion y video de todas las sessiones de la asamblea. Asi que si le quieren hechar bronca al gobierno Canadiense pues aqui tienen con que.
• http://www.polarisinstitute.org "The Polaris Institute" Esta organizacion es como la "Canadian centre for policy alternatives".

Hay me dicen que opinan.

The there are pages that are more traditional in their publication style, e.g. formal research reports and books.

Acabo de descubrir los "blogs" y son lo mejor desde que se invento el agua caliente. Desde que salieron los programas para hacer paginas de internet, supuestamente faciles de usar, quise hacer mi pagina de internet donde pudiera escribir lo que se me antojara y poner algunas fotos tambien. Lo intente algunas veces pero resulto que habia que dedicarle mucho tiempo. Tambien pese que seria buena idea que mis cuates pudieran comentar sobre lo que escribo o de las fotos. Y eso es justamente lo que se puede hacer en Blogger. Gratis y facil de usar.

Creo que el asunto de expresarse publicamente es una necesidad social muy fuerte, de ahi el exito de los blogs.

Bien por Google y todo los demas que hace herramientas parecidas!

I've just discovered blogs and I think they are "the best thing since warm water" (a Mexican expression... I guess). Ever since the "easy" tools to create web pages started to appear on the internet I wanted to be able to create a web page where I would post my thoughts and pictures. But I found that It required quite a bit of time to do that every day. Then I also thought - wouldn't it be great if my friends could comment on what I wrote or on my pictures?- This is exactly what I wanted! and now there it is: blogger. Free and easy to use!

I guess this is such a strong social need that somebody would come up with it sooner or later.
